F/O Carl H. Forbes was the Bombardier on the Joker II, a B-17 Flying Fortress, that was shot down over Germany on 3 February 1945. F/O Forbes was listed as Missing in Action and taken as a Prisoner of War to Dulag-Luft West. He was ultimately liberated and became eligible for the POW medal, which was not awarded by the DOD until 1985. He was also awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with two Bronze Stars for his service in Rhineland, Ardennes, and Germany. He later went on to serve as an officer in the Air Force Reserve as a liaison to the Air Force Academy. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
