PFC Felix P. Lopez was wounded when Viet Cong (VC) operatives detonated explosive charges causing his barracks to collapse. The operation killed 23 U.S. servicemen, seven Vietnamese civilians, and two of the Viet Cong attackers. In response, President Johnson ordered additional air attacks in North Vietnam on February 11, known as FLAMING DART II. U.S. Navy and Air Force and South Vietnamese aircraft hit barracks and other facilities at Chanh Hoa and Vu Con with rockets and bombs.
