Private First Class Weatherford was a medic with the Medical Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on August 6, 1952, and returned to duty on August 14, 1952. He was Killed in Action while tending his wounded comrades in North Korea on October 17, 1952. He was killed while participating in the Battle of Triangle Hill which was also known as Operation Showdown to secure Hill 598. Private First Class Weatherford was one of only 319 Combat Medics to be killed in action in the Korean War. Private First Class Weatherford was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
