Staff Sergeant Pete J. Herlevic, 40, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Herlevic of Hamburg, Arkansas, entered the Army in March of 1927. Trained at Louisville, Kentucky, he served overseas in Hawaii, North Africa, and England. Herlevic was killed in action May 6, 1943 in North Africa while serving with the 13th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Memorial services were held at the Beech Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, June 29, 1943. Herlevic is buried at Plot E, Row 21, Grave 4, at the North Africa American Cemetery in Carthage, Tunisia.
